MemoryMaker

The game idea I have for this soundtrack is that of a narrative adventure game focusing on a small group of friends reuniting at their old hangout place. They are talking about old times, but having a hard time remembering some of the smaller details. Through watching flashbacks, completing puzzles and mini-games of varying complexity, the player must use their acquired knowledge to answer lingering questions and heated debates to decide just how well this group of friends know each other. The player must be careful with how they answer, because it could determine whether or not the group continues to stay in touch.

Part 1: Together Again

I imagined this piece to be an introduction to the game and its characters, and trying to capture the joy of reuniting with one another. My goal with this piece was to experiment with changing time signatures that still flow together. I felt this made sense for what I was trying to accomplish here to try and give the impression that the group of friends are getting back into the groove of things - they've been away from each other a while, and so getting that chemistry going again is rocky at first but things eventually come together.

Part 2: Fun While it Lasted

In my mind I had this piece being used for the endgame or credits, where the group has packed their things the morning after their gathering and are getting ready to head in their own direction. I wanted this piece to feel like a group reunion - one individual initiates, followed by a few others joining in, with the occasional straggler who is always late but sticks around. The piece ends with most of the parts resolving and trailing off, but some staying a little longer to better reflect.

I end the submission in a very intentional way - it does not have a final resolution or cadence. In many forms of music, if a piece ends on anything but the home key that typically means there's more music to come. And much like many real life friend groups, there is only an ending to THAT piece of music but it's not a real ending if they know they're going to see each other again.
